I have received Just Married: The Catholic Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the First Five Years of Marriage as a wedding gift, but I never fully read it, until now. I have just entered my fifth year of marriage and it’s been a crazy adventure!! Reading Just Married: The Catholic Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the First Five Years of Marriage now as it is a “guide to surviving the first 5 years of marriage,” I can see how helpful it would have been to read it in the beginning of our marriage. Nonetheless, it was still a very useful book, even for us now.
Just Married: The Catholic Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the First Five Years of Marriage is a book with an entirely Catholic approach to marriage. It is written with a lot of information and a lot of details. Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak also include marital research to back them up and their own marriage details. They’ve been through a lot of the struggles that other married couples go through over the years. Just Married: The Catholic Guide to Surviving and Thriving in the First Five Years of Marriage goes through many aspects of marriage: Praying Together as a Couple, Conflict, Putting Marriage First, Money, In-laws, Holy Sex, Having a Baby, and Changing the World through Your Marriage. It was an interesting read and made me wish I had read the book sooner, now some aspects of the book do not apply to us, like having our first child, but a lot of the information I can still put to good use in our marriage and may help us grow stronger. I highly recommend this book to be read either as an engaged couple or as a newlywed, it will help to read and apply these concepts much sooner in marriage. Once you hit some of the problems described in this book, it’s much harder to apply these concepts as opposed to already having them established in the beginning and throughout marriage. The Popcak’s definitely know what their talking about through the marital research that they state, counseling that Dr. Greg Popcak has performed, the Catholic faith’s take on marriage, and through their own 23 years of marriage. This book is very useful and resourceful.
Why we love it: It’s informative, useful, resourceful, discusses faith, counseling, research and experiences all in one book.
Have you read Just Married? Did you find the book useful? Are there any other books that have helped you in your Marriage and Faith?
