Pentecost Sunday, Holy Spirit

Lord I’m begging you, Lord I’m begging you, renew this world, renew this whole world.

Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday occurs 10 days after the Ascension of Jesus. It’s the day that the Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles. In the Bible, it states that it was like a “strong, driving wind” that filled the room where they gathered. Then tongues of fire appeared above their heads and the Holy Spirit came upon them. During this time, they were able to understand each other, even though they were speaking different languages. They also received other gifts necessary to fulfill their mission in going out and preaching the Gospel to all nations.

“Who is the Holy Spirit to me?

It is He who lives in my soul, pours out His love, leads me on the right path, and gives joy and happiness. As the third person in the Holy Trinity, he is less known to us and the least appreciated. At the start of any prayer, we are supposed to say the prayer to the Holy Spirit “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.”

To me a gentle wind and drops of rain, symbolize the Holy Spirit.” (Excerpt from Miracles Exist in Today’s World Ch. 3 pg. 13)

Holy Spirit Bible Quotes:

“In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will.” (Romans 8:26-27)

‘Therefore, I tell you that nobody speaking by the spirit of God says, “Jesus be accursed.” And no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the holy Spirit.”‘ (1 Corinthians 12: 3)

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

We should begin our prayers with a Prayer to the Holy Spirit, such as the one below:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,

did instruct the hearts of the faithful,

grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise

and ever enjoy His consolations,

Through Christ Our Lord,

Amen.

If we need direction in our lives, we should pray to the Holy Spirit. There’s even a Novena to the Holy Spirit that ends on Pentecost Sunday.
